Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems passed over the state, bringing wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Homeowners observed large ice chunks as large as 7 centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were working to restore power throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews activated to handle the widespread outages.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 calls for help across the state, mostly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

At one point on Sunday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk predicted across multiple regions of both regions.

Medical Alert

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
